AKWABA! ... African Drum and Dance group Akwaba means "welcome" in the ashanti language of Ghana. Founded by David Johannes, Akwaba! is a drum and dance group performing traditional and hybrid music based on traditional rhythms and song from Africa. Based in Thunder Bay, Ontario, this group is available for performances featuring high energy drumming, dancing and song while fostering a sense of community spirit. Kwasi Dunyo is an African drum master from Ghana who now teaches in Toronto and has been a powerful influence and teacher to David as well as others in the area. Rachel and Tamarack are local dance enthusiasts and promoters of cultural and spiritual interests in the city who have also played a major role in the formation of this group.
